2007-08 : Review

The last Fife Junior match is completed a week after the European Championship begins, and only 4 weeks before friendlies can be played in preparation for the new season

Fife’s largest town loses its Junior team for a season as YM takes a year out (as a result of the greater travelling costs?). As a result of this, the East Region Central Division has its Tayside contingency increased to four to fill the gap, further increasing the strains of travel costs on the Fife County teams.

Ballingry makes the early running in the Central Division, and clinch promotion in their penultimate game. Dundonald does the same in the Premier, although two heavy capitulations at home show the fragility of their challenge. Rosyth never recovers from a bad start in the Premier. In the Super League, the Haws, the Glens and Oakley make heavy weather of it as the league develops into a two horse race between Lochee United and Whitburn. The league goes in favour of the team from the “dark suburb,” and Oakley goes down.

In the Scottish, all the teams make the 2^nd round (for perhaps only the first time), on account that all but two had first round byes! However the termination of the interest of most of the teams was only delayed until the third round instead! Thornton Hibs reprise their feat of nearly 40 years previously by being the longest lasting survivor, by reaching the semi-finals, with the scalps of Petershill and Glenafton on the way! Cumnock proves one step too far as they are defeated, after extra time, at Broadwood (Cumbernauld).

The Glens and the Haws participate in the first final of the season with tha latter prevailing. The two other “Fife” competitions are shunted to the end of the season. Glenrothes wins the Fife Cup, and Kelty the Cowenbeath Cup.
